Palliative Care
Toward the end of an ailing person's life, the focus of care often shifts from reversing conditions to minimizing pain and controlling symptoms. Helping families cope with emotional difficulties is another big part of palliative care, as are spiritual concerns and answers to questions about life-extending treatments and technologies.
Whether it's provided at home or in a facility, palliative care incorporates many different forms of support, from medication to bereavement counseling. One common goal is to preserve the dignity of the dying by honoring their directives.
